Star Cellar Door
There are a couple of rites of passage for Australian wine lovers visiting Coonawarra for the first time. The first is getting a snap of the much-photographed Coonawarra railway siding on Memorial Drive just past the Wynns cellar door. The other is a visit to the Wynns cellar door itself, whose famous gables always delight when you spy them for the first time after seeing the image on so many famous bottles of Wynns wine.
Stroll past the manicured garden and through the doors of this famous building, and you’ll immediately feel at ease among the stone and wood of the cellar door’s interior. Make sure you have a wander around before tasting to check out the artwork, information on the history of Wynns and of course, the display of the famous terra rossa soils of the region.
The line-up of wines is spectacular and you will always find some older vintages and museum wines available for tasting and purchase. The staff are fantastic and take advantage of the MYOB (Make Your Own Blend) sessions where you can take a personalised bottle of your favourite blend home with you as a souvenir of a memorable visit to one of Australia’s greats.
