Star Cellar Door
For generations of wine drinkers, Brown Brothers has been their first cellar door experience. That’s how relevant this 133-year-old winery is to the Victorian wine-scape. The Brown family never rests, whether it’s focusing on small lots of emerging grape varieties through its aptly-named Kindergarten Winery, seeing the possibilities that lurk in the soils of the King Valley, or further afield, including Tasmania.
The Browns grow more varieties than just about any vineyard in the country, some created solely for Australian conditions by the CSIRO, such as tarrango. As an early adopter of King Valley Italian grapes, it makes sense to start with Brown’s moscato or prosecco, and don’t forget this is also where you can start The Prosecco Road regional touring experience. A super-relaxed mood awaits: bean bags on the lawn, a children’s playground, and Patricia’s Table for a meal. JENI PORT
