WINE LIST Luke Collard
WINEs ON LIST 1630 (70 by the glass)
WINE PRICES $$$ ($99-$10 by the glass)
At 80-plus pages, Luke Collard’s substantial Jonah’s list is graced with noble benchmarks, many with welcome bottle age. A noteworthy partnership with Taittinger underpins the Champagnes, with Collard offering a flight of three vintages by the glass, a vertical of Comtes de Champagne, and graduating up to six-litre Methuselahs for the minted.
His passion for German riesling culminates in an impressive dedication to JJ Prüm in his Producer Spotlight section. Grange dating back to 1982 sits comfortably aside “School of Rock” producers such as Brash Higgins, Sami-Odi and Head Wines. For those who simply wish to be wined and dined without too much thought, the degustation offers “Wines of Australasia” ($90) and “Wines of the World” ($140) matched with each course.
A diverse, well-priced and exciting by-the-glass program adds depth and interest to this list, as does a tidy array of half bottles and celebratory magnums, which are so often overlooked. In addition, there are tantalising nips of aged fortifieds, digestifs and sweet wines, rounding out this comprehensive collection on a high note. Sophie Otton
