We continue to recognise talented Australian winemakers with the Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year Awards now in its 23rd year thanks to the support of Perpetual.
Here we present the last four finalists, including Alex Head who creates his own take on the Barossa’s favourite grape varieties through Head wines. The formidable Kevin Bell, of Hurley Vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula, has an illustrious career in law and human rights but still finds time to make exceptional pinot noir. Belinda Thomson is both chief winemaker and viticulturist at Crawford River in Henty, and also a talented linguist and organic enthusiast. Tasmania’s Peter Dredge is responsible for a trio of labels: Dr Edge, Meadowbank and – along with a couple of wine mates – the left-of-field wine project known as Brian.
