Adelaide Hills

It’s rare to find a capital city where you can drive 20 minutes from the CBD and be smack-bang in the middle of rolling vineyards, grand vistas and ancient gums. Adelaide Hills is literally on Adelaide’s doorstep and it boasts some of Australia’s best-known wineries, cracking boutique operators and an exciting, natty wine scene. With the recent devastating bushfires, now is the time to visit and support the winemakers here.

The Lane Vineyard

Star Cellar Door

(08) 8388 1250

A visit to the Lane Vineyard cellar door always seems to last a lot longer than expected. There are a few reasons for this predicament.

Most importantly, the selection of wines available at the cellar door highlights all that is great about the varieties that do particularly well in the Hills, with superb renditions of chardonnay, pinot noir and shiraz in the line-up.

Second, the views sweeping across the rolling hills soothe the soul and are conducive to settling in. Another reason to stay a while is executive chef James Brinklow, who is turning out some of the best food in the region. Put them all together and it’s the ideal recipe for a classic long lunch.

For a deep dive into the wines, there are a range of experiences on offer, from structured tastings and blending to the Panorama and Ultimate Experience packages. The Lane just ticks all the boxes and offers the visiting wine lover many options to enjoy this special slice of the Hills. DAVID BROOKES
