Canberra District

High above the sound and fury of Canberra’s political players, there are motions of a different kind being put forward by the winemakers of one of Australia’s youngest and most exciting wine regions. While Clonakilla remains the ensign of excellence, there are others emerging out of the rolling hills and gentle slopes of this cool landscape.

Collector Wines

Star Cellar Door & Best Small Cellar Door

(02) 6116 8722

Collector Wines’ cellar door lies just out of sight of the big city lights, in the sleepy town of Collector, at the northern end of the endorheic Lake George.

Winemaker Alex McKay crafts delicate, acid-driven and age-worthy wines, such as the flinty and floral Tiger Tiger Chardonnay, the taut and textural Lamp Lit Marsanne, and the soft, powerful Reserve Shiraz. All of McKay’s wines are elegant and perfectly attuned to the cool off-white style and warm timber tones of this cosy and quaint cellar door.

Naturally unassuming, Collector Wines shares its space with the super cute Some Café next door. Order a tasty toastie and a good cup of coffee for lunch – right after a wine tasting, of course. DANIEL  HONAN
