The Barossa, comprising Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, is a region steeped in rich, viticultural history, with an eye on the future. Wineries here have been doing the hosting gig for a while, so it’s no surprise they know how to craft a captivating and memorable cellar door experience. Shiraz stars in this part of SA wine country, but don’t overlook the riesling, semillon, mataro, grenache and cabernet sauvignon. You’ll be spoilt with accommodation options, with homely vineyard cottages, farmstead properties and luxury, world-class vineyard retreats. Whether you’re looking to step back in time or discover something new, it’s all here in the Barossa.

David Franz

Star Cellar Door

0417 454 556

This is a favourite with locals and visitors alike. David Franz Lehmann has pulled together a cosy and thoughtfully curated offering that feels like an extension of something very personal and quintessentially Barossan. The vantage point has you gazing out across the vineyard from the rustic deck that blurs the boundary of outdoor and indoor. There’s a full page dedicted to charcuterie and cured things to snack on, a long, long list of cheeses, as well as Apex Bakery bread for an authentic local flavour. The wine on offer is equally mammoth with all styles catered for, as well as back vintages and fortified styles. It’s a convivial, easy-going cellar door where time seems to pass so easily.
