Shoalhaven Coast

From the Instagrammable pure white sands of Hyams Beach to the country chic of Berry, the visit-worthy appeal of the Shoalhaven is obvious. As a wine destination, it’s been a work in progress, with the cellar doors historically geared towards hen parties rather than interested wine people. But that was then. Now, they’re a true experience, with high teas, 4wd vineyard tours, on-site fromageries and more. Couple that with a new generation of focused producers (particularly up towards Kangaroo Valley) and the Shoalhaven’s charm extends well beyond the storied beaches. Andrew Graham

Star Cellar Door

Sitting just outside of fishing village-turned holiday town Ulladulla, Cupitt’s isn’t just a cellar door, it’s a destination, with a restaurant, accommodation, brewery, fromagerie and easily the best regional wines. Head winemaker Wally Cupitt has smartly chosen to look beyond the region for quality fruit, drawing on diversity such as Hilltops nebbiolo, Heathcote viognier and Canberra pinot noir. You don’t just visit the cellar door here, you settle in for lunch and enjoy the whole gamut of wine, beer, cheese (and more). Keep in mind it can be notably busy on holiday weekends, especially around the famed Sunday Sessions. ANDREW  GRAHAM
