NZ Winemaker of the Year Dinner

To celebrate the winners and finalists of the Gourmet Traveller WINE New Zealand Winemaker of the Year Awards 2021, supported by Vintec, we will be holding an intimate four-course dinner hosted by Dom Sweeney at Bibo Wine Bar.

Guests will enjoy wines from this year’s overall winner Jules Taylor, of Jules Taylor Wines; Viticulturists of the Year, Sherwyn Veldhuizen and Marcel Giesen, of Bell Hill and recipient of the
Leadership Award, Ben Glover of Zephyr Wines.

Drops will also be on pour from the fabulous finalists: Clive Jones of Nautilus Vineyard; Kate Radburnd of Radburnd Wines; Sarah-Kate and Dan Dineen of Maude; Hugh Crichton formerly of Vidal, but currently setting up his own label; and Paul Pujol of Prophet’s Rock. New Zealand Pinot Noir Tasting

If you’re a big fan of pinot noir from our friends across the ditch, this is the tasting for you. Join Peter Bourne as he takes you through the New Zealand pinot noir featured in this edition’s panel tasting (page 46). Sydney-siders can catch the tasting on 28 April at Winespace, and those in Orange on 3 May at Ferment, the Orange Wine Centre. The Sydney tasting is A$80 and Orange is A$60, and both run from 6pm to 8pm.

Barossa Wine Live Auction

The Barossa Wine Live Auction is back and this time with a new offering. Usually only held in the Barossa itself, this year a live auction will also take place in Sydney, at Hyatt Regency on 29 April. The line-up is as impressive as ever, with collector items from names such as Penfolds and Henschke along with travel packages from SA’s best including Eos by Skycity and The Louise. If you can’t make it to the live auction, not to worry – there’ll be an online auction from 9 April to 2 May.

Chardonnay fans, it’s time to head to the Adelaide Hills with the inaugural Chardonnay May event. Make a toast to the well-known variety with a month-long program of chardonnay-themed celebrations, including long lunches, masterclasses, tastings and more. Some of the highlights include vertical flights at Ashton Hills, cheese and wine pairings at Petaluma Wines, a Chardy Party at Pike & Joyce and the Chardonnay Degustation at Sidewood Estate. Most events are held in the Adelaide Hills, as well as some across the state, so visit for the full program.

Usually held as a Gourmet Weekend, this year it’s a week-long celebration in SA’s Clare Valley with the SCA Gourmet Week. Join the locals as they welcome you to their homeland with local wines, produce and smiles aplenty. While the first weekend will feature the much-loved Gourmet Weekend events, the rest of the week will showcase some new additions including the Producer’s Market, Vintage Tasting and Grape to Gourmet.
