MUDGEE

Mudgee continues its reinvention with a diverse offering of wines led by varieties from the Mediterranean environs. Think fiano, vermentino, barbera, sangiovese and tempranillo. That said, full bodied reds remain the focus with the old-timers (Huntington, Robert Stein and Craigmoor) joined by newbies like Yeates, Vinifera, Heslop and James Manners. The food is also en pointe – be it snacks to accompany a tasting or sophisticated restaurants like the Pipeclay Pumphouse and the Zin House. Mudgee township is vibrant with Alby & Esters the top spot for coffee and Roth’s Wine Bar for a quiet drink or two.

HUNTINGTON ESTATE

Star Cellar DooR

Huntington Estate has taken on a new life, mostly driven by the end of the legendary Huntington Estate Music Festival in 2019, the unique gathering of musicians and winelovers for a relaxed celebration of music, food and wine. Tim Stevens is chief winemaker but it’s his dynamic wife, Nicky who’s driving the revitalisation. Bespoke tastings in a wooden art studio run alongside the refreshed tasting room complete with its original stain glass windows. The new Eat@Huntington is open for lunch Thursday to Sunday with a French emphasis. Music remains very much part of the Huntington scene with classical, chamber and local musos in the mix.
