There is something about the Adelaide Hills. A short drive from the CBD sees you among rolling hills and verdant valleys dotted with vineyards and farm-gate stalls. It’s on a bit of a roll lately with new eateries and fledgling wine labels seemingly popping up every month or so. There are plenty of wonderful cellar doors to visit up in them-there hills, but this year, The Lane picks up the honours for a number of reasons.
For starters, those views. The sweeping vista from the cellar door is just wonderful looking out across the estate vineyards and off into the rolling hills in the distance. The cellar door is well set out with friendly, knowledgeable staff and the wines on offer just seem to be on song year after year.
There are a variety of tailored experiences if you would like something a little more special than the usual cellar door visit. They range from a guided tasting through The Lane’s top wines in their spectacular Panorama Tasting room to cheesemaking classes with Woodside Cheese Wrights or a behind the scenes wine blending session in the winery with the winemaking team. And then there is the restaurant, which is one of the best in regional South Australia. The complete package. DAVID BROOKES
