Henschke has a huge reputation and justifiably so; their wines sit comfortably in the upper echelon of Australian fine wine and the quality throughout the range is outstanding. Despite its mighty presence, a visit to the Henschke cellar door is an intimate experience. Nothing flashy, just wonderful wines in a beautiful setting that give you a deeper connection with the six generations of the Henschke family that have steered the winery to global renown.
Sure, it’s closed on Sundays and it’s off the main tourist trail, but man, what a lovely part of the Eden Valley. There is a certain feeling, a presence as you settle in to taste wines here that is just special. The staff are super knowledgeable and friendly, and it is well worth digging in and getting a sense of the history behind the winery.
For something really memorable, the VIP tour and tasting gives you exclusive access to the revered Hill of Grace vineyard and a winery tour before settling in to the Henschke’s private cellar for a tasting of Hill of Grace, Hill of Roses, Cyril Henschke and Mount Edelstone.
