To be a star winery in consecutive years requires an outstanding collection of wines and a very satisfying tasting experience. Here, there’s the power and finesse of the flagship King Billy Cabernet Sauvignon, a classy group of single-vineyard wines (notably the purity of the Styx Gully Chardonnay and the complexity and silkiness of the Two Steps Shiraz), the extensive regional range with its standout riesling (intense and ultra-dry) and Hannah’s Hill Cabernet Malbec (full-flavoured and velvety), and the Cape to Cape quaffers – everyday wines of character. All represent excellent value for money.
The room itself might overwhelm you until you are drawn into the tasting by the experienced and friendly staff, quality glassware, and, of course, the wines. Some may regard the Kerrigan + Berry Riesling and Cabernet as a winemakers’ indulgence, yet they are stellar wines. Coffee lovers will find a visit rewarding, even memorable.
