Julian Tertini planted his Yaraandoo vineyard in 2000 and, though a newcomer to viticulture, he was sufficiently savvy to employ the quietly spoken, highly focused and uber-talented Jonathan Holgate as his winemaker.
Pinot noir stands out with riesling and arneis in solid support, backed by cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, pinot gris, merlot and lagrein. A mere sip of Holgate’s wines will confirm why wine show judges have showered Tertini with medals and trophies from the inaugural vintage in 2005.
The cellar door is a simple, low-key affair with good coffee and local cheeses adding panache. Grapes from Yaraandoo are supplemented with fruit from other regions and clearly labelled as such.
