It is rare that a cellar door makes such a strong statement. The building is visually dramatic – modern, stylish, captivating, comfortable – and offers striking views over the Wilyabrup Valley. It is also thoughtfully set up to maximise the tasting experience.

Talented winemaker, Jeremy Gordon, made a big impact in Margaret River when he won the Jimmy Watson Trophy for Flametree, in only his second year in the region. He has re-established himself quickly at Amelia Park with impressive regional wines from Margaret River as well as classy shiraz from Frankland River. The budget-priced Trellis range has very drinkable drops. The Amelia Park vineyard was part of the original Moss Wood block and so has prime Margaret River soil. Expect what are already superb wines to get even better. With the team from Dunsborough’s excellent Piari Restaurant moving to open at Amelia Park in May 2017, there’ll soon be another drawcard at this stellar cellar door. PETER FORRESTAL
