I love visiting Wirra Wirra. From the moment you point the car through the gates of Woodhenge – the massive post-and-rail fence that acts as the boundary to the estate – you know you are in for a treat. Readers of this magazine will be well aware of the quality of the wines here and there really is something for everyone, from the fun Mrs Wigley Moscato, through to the value-packed Scrubby Rise range to the more serious Scarce Earth wines and the flagships – The Angelus Cabernet Sauvignon, The Absconder Grenache, RSW Shiraz and the stellar Chook Block Shiraz. At the cellar door, housed in recently refurbished ironstone buildings, friendly and knowledgeable staff guide you through the range with great aplomb and a sense of pride. Harry’s Deli provides all manner of delicious fodder and coffee to keep the engines stoked. Kick back in the gardens and make use of the covered barbecue area overlooking the vines. They’ve even got a trebuchet – who could ask for anything more? DAVID BROOKES
