South Burnett is still very much an emerging wine region, as a number of smaller operations spread throughout the district work hard to establish themselves and the region as a wine destination. As an area that does not receive a great deal of through-traffic, and competes with the nearby Sunshine Coast region for visitors, Taste South Burnett operates as a de facto communal cellar door, allowing the wineries to concentrate on production, though many do have their own cellar door facilities. Located in central Kingaroy, it provides visitors with the opportunity to gain a much greater insight into this region than time usually permits. It is forever expanding its portfolio, offering a further 20 new and museum release wines to its customers in the last year alone, bringing the total to over 50 wines and liqueurs from the region – and it is always looking to include other locals. It also offers a café and catering, focusing on the region, and visitors to the facility can take their pick of local deli products. KEN GARGETT
