The small cellar door at Tobin Wines, on the Granite Belt, is a joy to visit, but when you step through the doors, don’t expect to get out of there in a hurry. Adrian Tobin, owner and founder, will almost certainly be on duty behind the bench, regaling customers with all manner of tales.
A series of placemats, detailing the wines, are lined up for customers and Tobin will take visitors through his range, every wine in a fresh Riedel – he would not re-use a dirty glass for his wines at home, so is certainly not going to disrespect his wines when serving them to interested customers. He’ll take visitors through every part of the process, from vineyard to winery to bottle.
The wines come from some of the oldest vines in the region. Quantities are small; crop reduction can be anything up to three bunches from every four. KEN GARGETT
