Passing Clouds is the archetypal down-to-earth Australian family-owned and run winery. It’s all about keeping the wine and dine experience real, rustic and fun. Second generation Cameron Leith is the winemaker making excellent booze to match with lunch, described as ‘la famiglia-style’. The salumi is manually cut from the red Berkel – a dream addition to any kitchen, and there’s very good charcuterie such as rillettes to try, but it’s the Meat Over Coals option that entices. It could be roast pork leg, beef or chicken, either way, it will be smoky, juicy and delicious with vegetables sourced from the estate’s organic veggie patch.
The setting is charming and relaxing with knowledgeable cellar door staff if you fancy a tasting before lunch. Every Sunday from nearby Daylesford, you can hop on board the historic railmotor train bound for Passing Clouds. JANE FAULKNER
