David Lowe has taken to sustainability with a true passion, his wines fitting perfectly with today’s clean, green mantra. The Lowe Wines cellar door reflects his ecological outlook with a long table set against barrel stacks in his corrugated winery shed with marketplace umbrella- covered, outdoor tables overlooking the cottage garden and outdoor sculptures – some chiselled by local icon Ian Marr.
The benchmark Lowe wines are complemented by the affordable Tinja label (with fruit from Orange in the mix) plus scintillating rieslings sourced from the Louee vineyard on Nullo Mountain near Rylstone. Lowe’s culinary queen wife, Kim Currie, has temporarily closed her much-lauded The Zin House. It will reopen in July with a fresh concept. Meanwhile, Currie continues to orchestrate the various grazing platters on offer at the Lowe cellar door. Lowe makes preservative free wines too, naturally from organic grapes. PETER BOURNE
