Situated at Mount Cotton, Sirromet Wines stretches over a 225-hectare estate looking over Moreton Bay. Just a short drive from Brisbane’s CBD, its extensive features make it the premium cellar door facility in Queensland, and one of the leading operations in Australia. Founded by local businessman Terry Morris, it boasts a state-of-the-art winery and the first class restaurant, Lurleen’s, is run by highly regarded local chef Andrew Mirosch. Cellar door facilities offer Devonshire teas, coffee, and vineyard platters seven days a week, with a more substantial menu from Wednesday to Sunday and premium tastings from Thursday to Sunday. The Tuscan Terrace seats up to 400 outdoors with other facilities including a children’s playground, working worm farm and first class accommodation in the grounds at Merlot House. There is also a 10-hectare vineyard (the vast majority of the grapes are grown on the Granite Belt).
Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of tours of the estate and winery and live music is offered on the weekends. No wonder it attracts so many families keen for a day out. With 3,000-4,000 visitors weekly, Sirromet is surely the envy of almost every other cellar door in the country. Ken Gargett
